Self \ An evening of movement and sound. Vanessa Bedoret (Scenic Route) Vanessa Bedoret is a London-based French violinist, vocalist and composer. She integrates her classical background to experimental production, as a means to shape intimate and cinematic compositions. Vanessa began her classical training at age 6 and on completion at 18 she embraced the thrill of playing guitar and bass in punk bands, and like many at the turn of adulthood, was quickly captured by the allure of the dancefloor. Her deep understanding of musical form elevates her experimentation to a truly unique sonic experience, one that never strays too far from her original love of classical music. She last appeared at The White Hotel when accompanying Astrid Sonne for he Great Doubt’s tour, as a string trio with Astrid and cellist Emma Barnaby, so it’s a pleasure to be hosting her solo return. She joined Scenic Route, a label renowned for selecting and nourishing rising stars for the release of her debut album, Eyes, out on 8th of March 2024. Boomkat described the record as “a timeless bouquet of raptures and ballads iced with shearing strings and shatterproof electronics” whilst Fader called it “sleek, avant-garde reconstructions of club music — think Björk produced by Mica Levi”. Magnus Westwell (Dance) Magnus Westwell is a Scottish artist and director working with choreography, composition and performance. Spanning the euphoric and desolate, Westwell’s work seeks to understand and express states of cathartic transformation through live performance and sound. Westwell’s practice unfolds through an ongoing dialogue between movement and sound, where choreography and composition evolve in response to one another. In the studio, sound works are composed alongside the development of choreography, with music emerging from the presence of dancers in space. This reciprocal process allows movement to shape sound as much as sound shapes movement, creating a cyclical exchange between the disciplines. Westwell’s practice has been shaped by time living in Orkney, London, and Glasgow, where they are currently based. Magnus Westwell is a Sadler’s Wells Young Associate alumni, and their work has reached a diversity of venues, institutions, galleries and festivals across Europe and the UK, including Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Edinburgh Art Festival, Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, London Short Film Festival, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Britten Pears Arts, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, Cafe OTO, The Royal Society of Arts, Number 1 Main Road Berlin, Institute of the Arts Barcelona and Amsterdam Dance Event, with digital work published and premiered across Nowness, Sadler’s Wells Digital Stage and FACT Magazine. Needle Experimental computer music and scorching vocals from Joe Beedles and Tom Noonan's NEEDLE. Joe Beedles is an artist and musician primarily working with synthetic sound and laser. Joe’s captivating live laser show, presented internationally, makes use of a sound palette comprised of detailed computer music abstractions, auditory illusions and physically-modelled instruments. Music is tightly synchronised to strobe and laser via shared analogue signals resulting in a hypnotic and fully immersive aerial display. His work has been featured in gallery, venue and club contexts internationally. Joe has held residencies at The Banff Centre, Canada (2016), in Chongqing, China (2017), at Wysing Arts Centre, UK (2019), and in Johannesburg, South Africa & Maputo, Mozambique with the British Council (2019).
