Time to feed the cat. Saturday, September 5th, we’re proud to welcome our friends Black Rave Culture to Bastet. Black Rave Culture is the trio of Nativesun, James Bangura, and Amal - hailing from D.C. and touching the world. Hot off the release of Black Rave Culture Vol. 4 and currently on tour across Europe, the trio arrives in Philly at a moment of serious momentum. Individually, all three have built their own movements, distinct sounds, and unmistakable energy. Together, they’re a force - pushing club music forward while drawing from house, techno, footwork, two-step, dub, baile funk, and whatever else the future calls for. For us, this night is also about connecting the story of Mid-Atlantic and East Coast club music — D.C. to Philly and beyond — and continuing to create space for the artists shaping where that story goes next. Opening in support is DJ Love, a first-generation Liberian American DJ, curator, educator, and community builder whose sets move through techno, Jersey Club, ballroom, gqom, amapiano, Afrobeats, and global club rhythms - drawing from African diasporic traditions while keeping an eye focused on the future. Downstairs on Floor One, Ohlei + DJ Shango join forces in the lounge, keeping the energy expansive and offering a House and Afrohouse counterpoint to the intensity upstairs.
