We are so honoured to host one of our absolute favourite live artists Tarawangsawelas with their mindblowing use of Indonesian instrument Tarawangsa, Suling, Kacapi, and vocal performances with modern live pedals and electronic manipulation. Currently on tour in Europe from West Java, Indonesia. Tarawangsawelas is an innovative contemporary Sundanese ensemble, multi-instrumentalist project, and cultural initiative originating from West Java, Indonesia. Rooted in traditional arts, the group explores Sundanese cosmology and local social dynamics through its performances. Known for updating traditional music centered on the Tarawangsa, Suling, Kacapi, and vocal performances with modern live pedals and electronic manipulation, Tarawangsawelas has performed across 29 cities in 12 European and Asian countries since 2017, including a featured appearance at the 2019 CTM Festival. The project’s multi-disciplinary work includes contributing music for the Indonesian Steam game Dreadout (Act 2) (2015), performing live scoring for Garin Nugroho’s silent film Setan Jawa in Tokyo (2019), and producing film scores with Azah Sastra for Sunrise In The Forest (2019)—which garnered nominations at the Austin and Sundance Film Festivals—and the Dutch short film Scent of Time (2021).
