All of the performers are improvising and experimental musicians active at the forefront of the field. After studying percussion, Stefan Voglsinger builds his own performance systems by modifying old machines and electronic circuits himself, or through programming, and gives performances with them. In October of this year he tours Thailand and Vietnam and holds, among other things, a workshop on Expanded Cinema, and then in November he gives live performances in various parts of Japan. PGR (Paolo Gàiba Riva), an Italian noise musician living in Taiwan, and Voglsinger met in Oslo about ten years ago. They share a passion for field recording and dense noise textures. PGR and Voglsinger will tour the Tohoku region the week before this event. Sayaka Botanic has been active since 2012 as a member of the industrial avant-garde duo “group A”; since the pandemic she has moved her base to Yokohama and works on her solo project. She has drawn attention for performances that boldly extend the violin through electronics and emphasize physicality. Computer musician Naoki Nomoto gives an astonishing number of live performances, with a striking sound that is never buried even in sessions with other musicians and with playing that has a sense of speed. He is also active in units such as fuelphonic, with Ritsuko Sakata, and Non Musica Elettronica Gruppo, with Wracked And Ruined. Takumi Ikeda, likewise a computer musician, is also a composer of contemporary music, and writes instrumental works with live electronics, music for chorus, and film soundtracks. At this concert he will premiere his latest work, which uses an animated score for all seven musicians to perform simultaneously. Cal Lyall is an experimental guitarist and organizer from Canada who lives in Tokyo. From 2005 he held “Test Tone,” a monthly event of improvised and experimental music, more than 100 times at the former SuperDeluxe in Roppongi, leaving a great mark on Japan’s experimental music scene. Toshimaru Nakamura is the foremost exponent of the “no-input mixing board (NIMB),” which is both an instrument and a playing technique that he himself named, and is one of Japan’s leading improvising musicians, active globally with his one-of-a-kind playing from the late 1990s to the present. He has made numerous collaborative performances and works, beginning with those with Otomo Yoshihide, Sachiko M, Keith Rowe, David Sylvian, and Christian Fennesz.
