The term cypher (or cipher) comes directly from hip-hop culture: rappers, MCs or beatboxers form a circle and take turns freestyling or performing written verses. There’s no distance between the performer and the crowd — the focus is on collective improvisation, energy and reacting to each other. Got a verse you want to share?
