Sound of SWANA presents : Youniss + Kid Fourteen « Far Away and Well Adjusted » Release Party + sable @ Nashaz Youniss (Hip-hop, Noise, Jazz, Post-punk – Ivory Coast, Iraq, Belgium) https://www.instagram.com/_.youniss/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGrB9tw3j24 Antwerp-based multi-disciplinary artist Youniss Ahamad operates much like a quantum particle, constantly resisting categorization and knowability. His live performances at festivals like Rewire, Roadburn and Les Nuits Botanique have gained him notoriety as a musical firebrand mixing post-punk, hiphop, and noise. Ahamad’s unique path in the Belgian underground has been influenced by his ancestral roots in Cote D’Ivoire and Iraq. His experience growing up in the Antwerp suburbs as a Black person with an Arabic name inspired 2023’s White Space – marking a shift from cerebral dance music to distorted, experimental storytelling. Each subsequent record has seen Ahamad shift his sound. Yet the overall trend has been toward more live, visceral performances: White Space was an outburst of electric guitar, spitfire vocals, and barbed breakbeats. 2024 EP Do We Try Beyond The Edge? continued in this vein, sharpening his lyrical bite against the colonial structures that still pervade everyday life in Belgium. On his upcoming record Ahamad steps out from behind the distortion, exploring the full range of his voice. An ode to the modern city and a clarion call against gentrification, Good Effort! marks yet another musical turn toward jazz, a chimeric combination of To Pimp A Butterfly-era Kendrick, Flying Lotus, and Slauson Malone. If one thing is consistent about Youniss, it’s his knack for breaking with expectation in a way that expands the field of sonic possibility. Kid Fourteen « Far Away and Well Adjusted » release party (Saxophone, Free Jazz, Electro, Ambient, Post-punk – Lebanon, France) https://www.instagram.com/kidfourteen/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byBMOpBYWIg Kid Fourteen is the moniker of Lebanese musician Khodor Ellaik. Emerging from Beirut’s Punk and No Wave scenes in 2015, his work has moved over the past decade through songwriting, electronic music, experimental saxophone and ambient recordings. His live performances have taken him through underground scenes across the Levant and Europe, including Belgium, Germany, Egypt, Turkey, Armenia, Switzerland, France and Poland. He has also performed on institutional stages such as the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, S.M.A.K. in Ghent, the Palais des Beaux-Arts, the Swedish Institute and the National Theatre of Catalonia. Kid Fourteen's debut album Dream Kids Never Sleep was an experimental pop record released in 2016 on the Lebanese label Ruptured. Two years later, after inviting Xiu Xiu to play in Beirut, Jamie Stewart introduced Khodor to the UK label Bad Paintings. The label released his second album Blood-thick Silence in 2018, a Noise Rock record driven by drum machines, sparse synths and guitars. Following several years of extensive touring, he recorded, arranged, mixed and mastered Love, a synth/electro/pop album released on his own label Kidsplay in 2020. After moving to Paris in 2022, he released his fourth album A Brief Emotional Dragon in 2023, drawing inspiration from Westerns and Japanese synth music. His instrumental album Heart is a Malady, released in 2024, is a sonic exploration of Arabic poetry. His sixth album Far Away and Well Adjusted, released in October 2026, finds him returning to songs after several years spent pushing his music towards longer compositions and instrumental work, carrying that journey back into something more intimate and unguarded. sable (Performance – Turkey, Belgium) https://www.instagram.com/aylee.ka/ Ayla Kardaşpir is a performance artist based in Brussels. As a member of the Turkish diaspora, her work explores hybrid identities, transgenerational memory and spirituality. Her practice involves multidisciplinary performances on the fringes of ‘augmented cinema’, interweaving the body, voice, lo-fi soundscapes and video. Straddling raw intimacy and critical nostalgia, her approach invokes a form of contemporary sorcery to make the invisible aspects of diasporic realities or fables tangible, to challenge the boundaries of time and to attempt to give voice to a shared language.
