SJQ, London

Award-winning pianist Bruno Heinen leads his trio to launch the new record 'Daydreamer', featuring fiery young bass sensation Kobe Heath Ngugi and London-based New Yorker Gene Calderazzo, a leading drummer on the international jazz scene whose vast portfolio includes performances with Pharoah Sanders, Radiohead and Freddie Hubbard to name a few. They are joined by special guest sax player Alex Hitchcock. Hitchcock has released music as a leader on New Soil, Edition Records, Whirlwind Recordings, and Fresh Sound New Talent. Dream Band: Live in London (2023) was Jazzwise Editor’s Album of the Year. Recognition for his work includes the Peter Whittingham Award, the Conad Jazz Prize at the Umbria Jazz Festival. The Guardian describes Bruno Heinen's music as "eclectic, eccentric and unobtrusively erudite", with BBC radio 3 recounting his music as "gorgeously explorative with echoes of Bartók and Stravinsky but always sounding like himself". Having recently premiered his work Past/Present at the Wigmore Hall, his compositional voice has been informed by his love of composers from Duke Ellington to Béla Bartók, which has earned him nominations for the Paul Hamlyn Composers award as well as the British Composers Award. Professor of jazz piano and composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, the Observer describes his music as "Demonstrating that originality doesn't have to be complicated".
