Jacklin's musical style has been described as indie pop, indie folk, and alternative country. Throughout her fourth album, Jacklin tests the fantasy that a person can protect their independence simply by needing less. The way she sees it, love threatens to create obligations, touring makes her “an outline” to family and friends, and being cared for can feel uncomfortably close to being watched. Again and again, the album’s 10 songs return to the small ways Jacklin and the people around her fail to show up for one another.
