Amuleto Apotropaico (Live) Full-spectrum percussion oscillating between elastic polyrhythms and pointillist, gridless movement, unfolding within an ever-modulating atmosphere of polyphonic resonators. Apparition-like drones dissolved by spastic digital strokes, reaching for quickly fading patterns. Following the 2025 self-titled release, Portuguese experimental musician António Feiteira’s Amuleto Apotropaico shifts its instrument-based music into fully electronic arrangements of concrète percussion. Drawing inspiration from Milford Graves’s conversion of the body’s secret rhythms into function generators, Feiteira performs within a system designed to emulate his own improvisational drumming language— session recordings of the drum kit are replaced by sample-based compositions, muscular-memories give way to MIDI-driven automations. Karen Ng (Live) Toronto-based improviser Karen Ng has established herself as a unique musical force nationally and internationally. Over the last 15 years audiences have come to know her distinctive tone and remarkable offerings in a variety of contexts performing with some of Canada’s most prized artists (The Weather Station, Andy Shauf, Do Make Say Think and more) while simultaneously collaborating regularly with creative and ad hoc ensembles in the wider improvising scene across the US and Europe. One of Canada’s leading improvisers “with a breathtakingly wide musical scope” (Musicworks) and Ng has been a featured guest on Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio Option Series, Bimhuis in Amsterdam, Western Front (Vancouver) and performed at established international festivals and series’ such as Coastal Jazz Festival (Vancouver), Suoni Il Popolo (Montreal), Pique (Ottawa), Venus Festival (Toronto), Sonic Transmission (Austin, TX), Blow Out (Oslo, NO), Space Is the Place (Amsterdam, NL), Summer Bummer (Antwerp, BE) and many other venues around the world that focus on experimental programming.
