As the nights draw in, and winter tightens its icy grip, we are bakk for one more stab at the onion bag before the year’s end. The curtain call beckons, but despite an overwhelming desire for nostalgic loitering, we look forward; hope lies in each other. Joining us this time - Devon Rexi Heading up the bill are the Amsterdam based trio - Devon Rexi. As is often the case with truly exceptional artists, their amorphous sound proudly slips through the cracks defined by genre rigidity. Straddling the outer edges of On U Sound dub experimentation and psychedelic post punk, percussive, bass led grooves are showered with cacophonous FX driven samples, loosely tied together by Nushin’s “fried Farsi” vocals. It’s raw, powerful and sexy sound system music that sits in a sonic world entirely of its own creation. Fresh off their mutant dub collab album with dance outsider and Hype Williams affiliate, John T Gast, Devon Rexi have spent the last couple years bringing their infectious live shows to righteous parties in the fields and darkened rooms across Europe. We are honoured to welcome them to our swamp before the flood waters reclaim it. Floor Length Skirts Opening the proceedings and warming thy cockles before Devon Rexi takes the stage is one of the most exciting DJ’s around - Floor Length Skirts. With a cursory glance over FLS’ catalog of lengthy mixtapes it would seem impossible that one person could have amassed such a boundless collection of mind melters and still have time to function as a human. To attempt to compile a list of humorous genre descriptors would essentially be futile. Just arrive on time and open thy hearts and minds friends. Roy Radiant Driving us through the power hours is Roy Radiant, aka Elliot. Bakk Heia family member Josh ‘Oblong Frog’ took his brother Elliot to one of our parties many years ago when he was just a wide eyed 18 year old. With his horizons (and neurotransmitters) suitably expanded, Elliot returned home. Since then, we have loved watching him grow as a DJ. He selects records straight from the heart, always searching to provide moments of playful chaos and tender connection. This ethos is typified in his angelic crew’s Lick Quid Gold parties which have run for a number of years in Leeds. In our opinion, El embodies the spirit of this thing, with an endless optimism which warms our jaded hearts.
