From 22:00 PM till late, ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฉ๐ก๐ข If youโve ever wondered what it feels like to have a drum machine or sampler instead of a pacemaker, you can always ask Valerio Del Prete aka Delphi, who has been setting dancefloors on fire for over two decades. From his early releases for Pigna, rooted in acid house, the Rome-based DJ and producer has made a name for himself through class, taste and technique, effortlessly moving through the shadowy territories between house, techno, disco, boogie and italo. Always delivering brilliant, essential material with devastating basslines. That first release also planted the seed for his long-running partnership with Marco Passarani, with whom he created the legendary Tiger & Woods project, initially operating completely under the radar and in total anonymity. Together, they shook up the dance circuit with a series of dazzling EPs and hybrid live/DJ performances, featuring dangerously high levels of groove. But thatโs another story. The duo also run their own T&W label, which in 2016 released another solo Delphi track, โBlue Tuesdayโ: a dancefloor killer somewhere between house, EBM and italo, a gem that would surely have found a home in the legendary Hot Mix 5 selections. Never one to stop at just one thing, Valerio has also nurtured a long-standing passion for beats and samplers (and Rome, almost forgot about that), first collaborating with sports podcast platform Fenomeno, for which he produced themes and the football-and-music series Trequartista, and later releasing two home-recorded albums, Through The Window and Face The Music, made during lockdown. These are short bursts of boom bap, worn down by loops and grit; agile hip hop sketches painted across circuitry and his personal vinyl collection, melancholic soundtracks for observing the world through the glass of a window. Completing this crossover between hip hop, football, sport and everything in between is the library collection Sport & Calcio: a beat-heavy, dusty and scratched-out selection, just the way he likes it, with titles steeped in boom bap melancholy, textbook loops, soul-warmed pitched samples and strange boogie detours. A CV that, really, needs little explanation.
