ÆFFECT RADIO is a Los Angeles-based community station showcasing the many facets of the city’s underground. Eclectic by nature and drawn to the left-field, its programming moves across genres, scenes, and generations. At its core, ÆFFECT is an open, unpretentious space for experimentation and self-expression. Every other Monday, Æ broadcasts live on Twitch, bringing special guest artists from around the world together with resident selectors Codiac, Songco, and Infinity Edge. To celebrate 16 years, Æ is stepping out of the studio and into The Airliner, a venue deeply rooted in Los Angeles music history and long associated with the legendary event series Low End Theory. Now revamped with a new space and Hi-Fi sound system, the venue provides the setting for this year’s anniversary. As a virtuosic mixing DJ, Wheez-ie is known for hitting his flow state by masterfully controlling chaos, with a high-risk, high-reward style that pulls from his deep knowledge of underground dance music, from footwork and juke to techno, jungle, drum & bass, and dubstep. Based in Los Angeles, the Houston-raised DJ, producer and audio engineer’s catalog spans releases on labels like Club Glow, Evar Records, Haven, Craigie Knowes’ C-No-Evil, Fools Gold and more. His trax have been remixed by artists like DJ Assault and Salva, as well as have been played out by prominent forces such as DJ Rashad, Joe Nice, Mala, Ben Klock, Sherelle, Anastasia Kristensen, Bailey, The Blessed Madonna, Nina Kraviz, Randomer, Kode9 and Skrillex, to name a few. Freeman 713 is a Los Angeles based DJ and producer known for driving, forward thinking club music that fuses dense tribal grooves with high energy techno. Their productions and sets are heavy, hypnotic, and relentlessly danceable, channeling the raw freedom of the underground through rough textures, floor focused functionality, and uncompromising forward momentum. Yessi is a DJ, producer and multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Her style behind the booth is playful and unapologetically freaky, reflecting both the raw, freewheeling spirit of the DIY scenes she came up in and a deep reverence for music history and ancestral sound traditions. Her sets concoct delicious, multi-genre chaos with ever-expanding ingredients - Midwest techno, post-punk, Colombian folk music, noise, and breaks to name a few - melding these influences with dissonant textures, restless rhythms, tripped out FX, and abstract turntablism.
