New York-based artist/choreographer Barnett Cohen brings tactics of practice to Ormside for its UK debut. Made in collaboration with London-based sound artist and composer Shamica Ruddock and dancer Sally Butin, the piece is a solo for Butin, choreographed by Cohen and sounded by Ruddock, that works the tension between withholding and reveal, pleasure and discord, space and place. Underscored by nightlife stimuli, it pushes the body through non-stop/stop motion into a performance of excess, driven by the erotics of force and aggression. First presented in Berlin for Creamcake earlier this year, this is the work's first outing outside Germany. The evening sets the performance alongside two live sound artists. Hannan Jones, an artist of Algerian and Welsh origin raised on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja and now based between Glasgow and Marseille. Jones’ sound is built on free improvisation with electronics, cassette archives and sampling, used to reclaim parallel histories and reimagine the connections between them, swelling into turbulence and fractured noise. A 2023 Oram Award recipient, her recent solo performances include Counterflows, Glasgow; Diasporas Now at South London Gallery and Spike Island, Bristol. She has released music on Optimo, and 12th Isle, with forthcoming releases on Real Landscape and Feedback Moves. Berlin-based artist, composer and vocalist b1unt b1ade moves between vulnerability and force, weaving industrial textures, choral resonance and drone into atmospheric soundscapes that flicker between the intimate and the monumental. On the surface, heavy with detuned gloom, visceral vocals, and the weight of grief - sink deeper, however, and an ambient viscosity flows like a waking dream. Unflinching and unapologetic, b1unt b1ade gives form to what resists being articulated: a ritual of transformation without resolution, allowing something long buried to finally emerge. This is their first concert in the UK. Three performances across one night, sitting at the seam of nightlife and experimental performance.
