**100 Flowers** **Shark Toys** **Comedians** 100 FLOWERS was the name adopted by the URINALS to signal the band’s next phase, which roughly corresponded to the early post-punk era. By 1982, the band had issued its raw and vital series of 7” records but felt the need to telegraph a more expansive vision by shedding its original name (to be re-adopted in the 1990s.) 100 FLOWERS was a more polished presentation, yielding the band’s first full-length album, a follow-up EP and the PRESENCE OF MIND single. Songs like ALL SEXED UP and TRIAGE paid tribute to the strain of “white funk” that was similarly coming out of New York’s No Wave scene as well as the UK, while STRIP CLUB and WITHOUT LIMBS proved the band was capable of more than just the minimalist thrash that they had started with. More psychedelic than the URINALS’ original approach, one can still hear Reichian minimalism and motorik-Krautrock, but now tempered with a vocabulary that included postpunkfunk, and hooky pop music in the band’s musical confidence. Concurrent with the ongoing URINALS (with guitarist Rob Roberge,) 100 FLOWERS (with guitarist Kjehl Johansen) is sporadically active and has recently performed domestically (New Orleans, Pittsburgh) and Internationally (London, Nottingham).
