Join us EVERY SUNDAY for a rotating selection of the best in LA's Jazz Music scene, and stay late for our Sunday residency. Musicians who want to jam get in free with an instrument after 9pm (one drink minimum). Two of the most prominent trombonists to emerge from the New York City jazz scene of the early 2000s, Josh Brown and Nick Vayenas took different paths that ultimately led them to the same place. In addition to becoming two of the leading voices on the instrument in jazz, they also spent nearly two decades performing together as the trombone section for Michael Bublé. Their long-standing friendship and shared musical sensibilities naturally recall the legendary partnership of J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding, whose groundbreaking quintet of the 1950s and ’60s featured the unconventional pairing of two trombones as its front line. What might have seemed like a novelty on paper was elevated by masterful compositions, virtuosic playing, and adventurous improvisation, creating some of the most inventive and enduring music of the era. For this special performance, Brown and Vayenas revisit these rarely heard masterpieces with an all-star rhythm section, celebrating the music of J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding with the energy, artistry, and spirit of exploration that made the original recordings so unforgettable. **Josh Brown & Nick Vayenas play the music of J&K** **With:** - **Josh Brown -Trombone** - **Nick Vayenas -Trombone** - **Roy Dunlap -Piano** - **Mike Gurrola -Bass** - **Kevin Kanner- Drums** Trombonist **Josh Brown** has taken up the torch of the classic music of the Jazz Messengers, one of Jazz’ premier bands that performed for over four decades, spanning the 50’s to the early 90’s, and was a launching pad for the solo careers of many of the art forms greatest performers.
