On Friday December 4, Lightstruck is thrilled to present an evening of 16mm occult psychedelia as a phantasmagorical lead-in to the Analog Outlaw Media Fair at 2220 the very next day! Featuring rare gems screening in even rarer prints, this immersive program proffers a wide range of short films engaging with magick and mysticism through the creative deployment of hallucinatory audiovisual approaches in service of extended vision and psychedelic exploration. Probing the inner depths and outer reaches of the human mind, this program will include unfathomable works from visionary filmmakers Kenneth Anger, Curtis Harrington, Amy Halpern, Mica O’Herlihy, Jane Conger Belson Shimane, Daina Krumins, François Miron, Peter Mays, Sky-David, and Ben Van Meter & Bob Comings. Film is an alchemical medium of expression and craft, steeped in esoteric innovation and significance, driven by dualities of light and dark, and all the infinite subtleties between. Light transforms the unexposed film strip, vivifying a lifeless object by infusing it with meaning and vitality, to then be dematerialized yet again when threading its way through the projector to present its latent shadows on screen. With its metaphysical blend of ecstatic optical printing, dynamic montage, unfettered cinematography, transformed found footage, sacred geometry, abstract animation, layered exposures of 1960s television, and more than one legitimate practitioner of magick, this program seeks to consider the filmmaker as a true sorcerer, capable of conjuring new forms, meanings, and languages through their unique and singular methods of cinematic divination.
