RA EVENT DESCRIPTION ABIBAS CLUB On 19 September 2026, ABIBAS CLUB returns to Aby’ss Shanghai, transforming the club into a distorted celebration of Slavic rave culture, bootleg sportswear and high-speed electronic music. Created from within the Aby’ss community, ABIBAS is one of the club’s resident-driven concepts. Its musical identity moves through hardbass, donk, electro-punk, Slavic hardcore, gabber and other fast, deliberately excessive forms of electronic music associated with post-Soviet and Eastern European underground culture. But ABIBAS is not simply a genre night. The project builds its own fictional universe around one of the most recognizable symbols of post-Soviet street culture: sportswear. ADIDAS, ABIBAS AND BOOTLEG CULTURE For decades, adidas tracksuits and sneakers have existed far beyond conventional sportswear in Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet world. They became part of street culture, football culture, rave aesthetics and eventually fashion. At the opposite end of that history sits high fashion. adidas has repeatedly entered fashion through collaborations and crossovers with designers and cultural figures, while its history with Rick Owens became one of the most recognizable examples of sportswear being reconstructed through avant-garde fashion. ABIBAS takes that cultural collision and deliberately breaks it. The name itself comes from the world of counterfeit sportswear and absurd logo mutations. ABIBAS, ADIBOS, ABIDAS and countless other distorted versions of globally recognizable branding became their own visual language across markets, streets and internet culture. At ABIBAS CLUB, the fake can become more desirable than the original. Guests are encouraged to arrive wearing obscure adidas pieces, vintage tracksuits, unusual sneakers and archival sportswear, or move completely in the opposite direction with aggressively fake bootlegs, corrupted logos and clothes that look almost right but obviously are not. There is no official connection between ABIBAS CLUB and adidas. The project treats the mythology surrounding the brand as raw material for underground fashion satire. RESIDENT ALTER EGOS The artists behind ABIBAS come from the resident community surrounding Aby’ss. For the night, however, their normal club identities disappear. Residents and members of the Aby’ss team perform behind masks and alternative personas created specifically for the ABIBAS universe, turning the DJ booth into another layer of the party’s fiction. The distinction between DJ, character, fashion and performance begins to collapse. Hardbass meets donk. Electro-punk meets hardcore. Expensive fashion meets terrible counterfeits. Eastern European nostalgia meets contemporary Shanghai underground culture. FROM SLAVIC RAVE TO SHANGHAI ABIBAS represents a different side of Aby’ss. Since opening in Shanghai in 2021, the club has developed an independent identity around techno, hard techno, hardcore, industrial electronics and experimental club music, while simultaneously creating its own resident projects. C.U.M explores the heavier and more confrontational side of hardcore and high-BPM rave. BLOODBATH developed its own Blade-inspired ritual around blood, performance and extreme club aesthetics. ABIBAS approaches underground culture through another door entirely: humor, fashion, bootleg culture, Slavic identity and musical excess. These projects are important because they are created inside the club rather than imported into it. International bookings connect Aby’ss with artists and scenes around the world, but resident projects allow Shanghai’s underground community to develop its own mythology, visual language and traditions. ABIBAS CLUB is one of those traditions. Born inside Aby’ss. Built around residents. Inspired by Slavic and post-Soviet rave culture. Reconstructed in Shanghai.
