ABY’SS HALLOWEEN: SCHWEFELGELB, MA HAIPING, NAXIN On October 30, Aby’ss Shanghai presents a Halloween night bringing together Berlin’s industrial techno duo Schwefelgelb, Chinese techno pioneer Ma Haiping and Shanghai vinyl culture representative NAXIN. Three distinct forces of underground electronic music meet for a night of dark rhythms, industrial energy and uncompromising techno. SCHWEFELGELB Berlin-based duo Schwefelgelb, formed by Sid and Eddy, have established an international presence through their powerful fusion of techno, electronic body music and industrial electronics. Known for their intense, physical sound and distinctive visual identity, Schwefelgelb connect the raw energy of EBM with the relentless momentum of contemporary underground techno. Their performances and releases, including work through their own n-PLEX label, have made them a recognizable name across international industrial and alternative club culture. For Halloween at Aby’ss, their dark electronic aesthetic provides the foundation for a night built around the heavier and more experimental edges of dance music. MA HAIPING Joining them is Ma Haiping, also known as MHP, one of the pioneering figures of China’s underground techno movement. An influential producer from Shanghai, Ma Haiping has played a major role in developing the city’s independent electronic music culture since the early 2000s. His releases on Jeff Mills’ legendary Axis Records, Soma Records and Molecular Recordings connect Chinese techno directly with some of the most respected institutions in international electronic music. Drawing inspiration from Detroit techno, science fiction and hypnotic electronic soundscapes, Ma Haiping represents both the history and international evolution of China’s techno scene. NAXIN Completing the lineup is Shanghai-based DJ and producer NAXIN, founder of Detune Radio and co-founder of E-fRUITY, with deep connections to the city’s vinyl record culture through fRUITYSHOP Records. Her sound combines Detroit-inspired techno, industrial textures and hypnotic grooves, representing the independent record-store communities and emerging artists that continue to shape Shanghai’s underground. HALLOWEEN AT ABY’SS Since 2021, Aby’ss has developed its identity around underground electronic music, connecting international artists with China’s independent techno community. This Halloween brings together three complementary parts of that culture: Berlin’s industrial and EBM heritage, the pioneering generation of Chinese techno, and Shanghai’s contemporary vinyl and independent label movement. Schwefelgelb, Ma Haiping and NAXIN represent more than an international lineup. Together, they connect different generations, cities and traditions of electronic music on one Shanghai dance floor.
