Long Play returns to Rhythm for a second evening dedicated to Frank Ocean, featuring a special post-listening extended session with local DJ Aaron Dunkies. We’ll be listening through two defining albums, starting with Channel Orange and moving into Blonde as the evening progresses. Frank Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange, moves through stories of unrequited love, wealth, addiction, loneliness, and desire, shifting between different characters and perspectives. An album combining R&B and soul with elements of hip-hop, funk, pop, and electronic music. Then comes Blonde, an album focused less on traditional R&B songwriting and more on memory, identity, relationships, and the passage of time. Its experimental approach blurred the boundaries between R&B, pop, soul, and alternative music, becoming one of the defining albums of the decade. Join us and experience both records exactly as intended. Part I: Channel Orange. Part II: Blonde. Two albums released four years apart, connected by Ocean’s constantly evolving approach to songwriting, production, and storytelling. Stick around for a drink at the extended session with Aaron Dunkies as we traverse the genre and beyond.
