Active internationally since the late 1990s, he has been collaborating with artists, festivals, theaters and institutions throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. As the only DJ worldwide who is a band member for the hit TV show The Voice, he lives and breathes hip hop. Fusing turntablism, percussion and controllerism, Werd has been an integral part of live shows for some of Germany´s best known artists. His passion to create and collaborate with artists and musicians around the globe keeps him busy crossing continents to work on projects, ranging from Sample Science (a monthly event for Berlin-based beat makers and producers), to scoring and editing music for original content as well as running his own indie label Long Lost Relative. Creature Creature. presents a fusion of club-ready jazz and broken beat, designed for London dance floors and jazz clubs alike. His immersive, rhythm-led vibrations take elements from hip-hop, electronic and jazz-funk culture, inspired by his worldwide travels as a sideman. Perhaps best known for his work as a session player for emerging artists like Yaya Bey, Katie Tupper and Brighter Days Family, Creature. (AKA Jim Cornelissen) cites Yussef Dayes and Alfa Mist as influences, as well as footwork producer Machinedrum, Flying Lotus and Terrace Martin. His debut album: A Life in Bloom - shows a live, visual body of work; capturing his distinct fusion of fresh and eclectic genres - made ever more vibrant with the use of live sampling and transcendental effects. Straying from his usual studio production approach, a Life in Bloom captures the raw energy of his live band, which has achieved Spartan synergy after pushing his music at his monthly residency at the famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for the last two years. With a strong foothold in the London Jazz and Club scene, Creature. is fast becoming a vital new voice in the future-jazz movement.
