This long-weekend edition of Ritual begins in The Nursery and expands into The Sound Room at 6 PM. Re-entry is permitted until 10 PM. PR residents Lovie and Jenifa Mayanja kick things off outdoors. One half of Soul Connection and the name behind summer school radio, Lovie imbues Black femme empowerment into intergenerational sets that span house, R&B, disco, and dusty funk. Jenifa Mayanja is a long-time proponent of all things deep, centering reverence and preservation of the culture over mass exposure. A stalwart of dance music in the US since the 2010s, Leonce's deep-thinking, critical lens on dance informs his uncompromising blend of experimental electronica, vogue beats, New Orleans bounce. While Leonce brings the Southern energy, BLKshine moves fluidly between the deep musical lineage of Detroit and the vibrant club cultures of Chicago and NYC. Their sets are smooth, intentional, groove-forward, and designed to pull you out of your head and back into your body. Ritual is a Sunday, queer-friendly dance party where everyone is welcomed and celebrated, presented by Hue Hallums. The foundation of house music was built upon by the Black and Latinx communities in queer, liberated spaces. Ritual centers Black and Brown artists, uniting established and emerging DJs to honor the essence of music while also unifying, liberating, and transcending the sacred space of the dancefloor. - Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
