This is a party of large proportions. On October 17th 2026 we gather in our big suits with our friends to dance. The suits, the DJs, the friends….everything will be big. Huge even. Think Mr. Monopoly, the 2003 NBA Draft, David Byrne in Stop Making Sense, a 1980’s lawyer’s kid on ‘Bring your kid to work day’, Chappel Roan in The Subway music video, or Nathan in Nathan for You S4E5. The suit section of the thrift store usually has the most inventory. The used car salesman, the accountant, the train conductor, The Boss, etc all used to wear suits. The suit signified power, money, and some level of seriousness (not Mr Bean). The suit showed respect and commanded it. For one night we harness this power and we revel in it. When was the last time you wore business formal? When was the last time you wore business formal with your friends? When was the last time you took yourself seriously? When was the last time you wore business formal and danced with your friends among of friends of friends who are also wearing business formal while listening to your favorite DJs who are also wearing business formal and you are smiling? Where there was wool, we have resigned to polyester. Where there were shoulder pads and structure, we have resorted to athleisure and elastic. The boogeyman now dresses like the layman and the layman just wants to lay down. For one evening, we convene again to cosplay as The Man. We celebrate the physical, the analog, the cumbersome, and the human. We synchronize our rotations around the room to forget, for a moment, that like the suit and the object: our obsolescence is nigh.
