“Mid-Autumn is supposed to be for kids, So why are all the grown-ups heading out? After working day and night, Under the full moon, it’s time to unwind.” For many of us growing up in Vietnam, Mid-Autumn Festival meant running around the neighbourhood, following the sound of lion dance drums, eating mooncakes, sharing the festival feast, and gathering every kid next door to go aura farming with the brightest lanterns we could find. We might be a little too grown up for some of that now, but Mid-Autumn is still a pretty good excuse to step outside, meet some people and spend a night together under the full moon. “Chung Khu” is our little wordplay on “Trung Thu”, the Vietnamese name for Mid-Autumn Festival. Chung means together or shared, while khu means an area or neighbourhood. But our “khu” isn’t somewhere you’ll find on a map. It only exists for one night, built by everyone who shows up. One person brings another, one crew runs into the next, and somewhere along the way, music pulls everyone into the same party. The full moon will be out, and if we’re too old for lantern parades around the neighbourhood, we’ll just parade ourselves from the Terrace down to the Club this year!!!
