20:00:00 - 21:30:00
The Fitzgerald, Manchester

Talks in the Pub, from the team behind Seed Talks. A pint, some pub snacks, and the strange, spooky history of Manchester. We are running two talks this evening, for tickets to "The History of Gothic Graveyards & Horror - Talks in the Pub", please click here. Manchester has always had a Gothic history. From the ghosts and grim realities of the Industrial Revolution to Egyptian mummies, medieval magic and the darker history behind Cottonopolis, the city’s past is filled with stories of horror, mystery, and the uncanny. This pub talk uncovers the people, stories and places that have given Manchester its Gothic character. We’ll meet the artists, writers and filmmakers who found horror and mystery in the urban landscape, and uncover the stories behind some of the city’s most atmospheric buildings – from libraries and cathedrals to galleries and synagogues. Doors open at 6pm, talk starts at 6:15pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Your speaker: Dr Emma Liggins is a Reader in English Literature in the Department of English at Manchester Metropolitan University and Co-Director of the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies.
