indek & friends present NEXUS_02 : Entanglement, an evening of radical & left-field electronic music at UNDERFLOW Record Store & Art Gallery in Athens Greece on Friday October 23rd. Nexus is a now international event series birthed in Akron, Ohio this year by indek featuring live performances, visuals and DJ sets with a strong collaborative & DIY community approach focused on an eclectic range of radical & left-field electronic music falling into categories spanning & bridging deconstructed bass jungle electro techno hip-hop experimental idm acid breakcore glitch gonk mutant avant-garde ambient rave noise. Nexus reawakens a legacy of events dating back to 2000 from indek's previous platform for experimental left-field music, Experimedia co-founded by Doug Meyer & Jeremy Bible in Akron, Ohio as a series of multi-disciplinary events running the stylistic gamut from techno to noise in multiple rooms on a single night before evolving into a record label & distro. Through bridging the rave and noise scenes, impromptu performances of noise artists joining electronic dance music artists would often occur, credited by many as one of the catalysts leading towards the noise-techno movement that would gain traction over a decade later and the left-field leaning deconstructed club sounds of the past decade. Nexus_03 aptly titled Entangelment brings together an international crew of new & old friends during indek's first visit to the historic & vibrant city of Athens, Greece including live electronic performances and visuals by Nixtrove (Montreal), Qebo (Athens), Echo Canyon (Athens) and indek (Ohio) downstairs. While Double-D feat Uaywyau (Athens) will keep the sounds going during the door opening reception & between sets upstairs with Live/DJ hybrid performances. Presenting the event at Underflow furthers the entanglement theme and took shape after learning it was run by many members of Athens based chamber orchestra Luup, led by flautist Stelios Romaliadis, who's first record Meadow Rituals was released by the Experimedia label in 2011. -------------------------------------------------- ARTISTS INFOS -------------------------------------------------- Nixtrove Montreal Canada / Berlin Germany Matthew Coulombe-Elvir is a Canadian and Honduran multidisciplinary artist. He was born in Vancouver in 1999, raised in Montreal and is now based in Germany. As Nixtrove, he produces multi-genre electronica with Max/MSP being at the core of his process, a creative development from his hardware-only sets. His explorations of rhythms, synthesis and organic, logical movement lead to immersive experiences that feel alive, energetic and otherworldly. With a background in audio engineering and drums, he gravitates towards building his own tools, bringing them together into algorithms, and transforming them into an evolving machine that warps time itself. ---------------------------- Qebo Athens Greece Qebo (Alex Retsis) is an Athens-based composer and sound designer whose work explores electronic music as a form of sonic sculpture. Drawing from contemporary electronic and electroacoustic traditions, his music is built from carefully shaped textures, fragmented melodies and rhythmic structures that move between density, abstraction and stillness. A recurring theme in Qebo's work is the relationship between human creativity and machines. Technology is not simply a production tool, but part of the creative process itself: a way of reshaping, disrupting and reorganising sound. Organic and synthetic materials often coexist, while natural and environmental recordings are transformed until their origins become blurred. This constant movement between the familiar and the artificial gives his music much of it's character. His process combines recorded and synthesised sound with detailed editing, modulation and automated systems. Mathematical structures, cellular automata and algorithmic sequencing often play a role, but rather than determining the music in advance, these processes generate material that can then be shaped intuitively. Sound itself - it's texture, movement and physical quality - often shapes the form of the work. ---------------------------- Echo Canyon Athens Greece Under the moniker Echo Canyon, Athens-based producer and sound artist Dimitris Patsaros fuses elements of jungle, ambient, techno, dancehall, dub, and kraut rock into a style that feels uniquely his own. Echo Canyon materialises abstract dance structures while casting polyrhythmic spells through field recordings and noise soundscapes upon a dissolving and uncertain dance floor. He draws from the visceral charge of punk, the physicality of low-end pressure, and the sculptural potential of sound to shape performances that dissolve boundaries. ---------------------------- indek Kent Ohio US "Electronic alchemist indek embraces the hedonistic impulses of breakcore and braindance in his work, filling each second with jolts of manic energy fueled by beats and samples that stomp and glitch and disintegrate under their combined weight. But even as his sounds short circuit and create sparks in cramped spaces, he never loses sight of how these often-disparate sounds can be fused together to create a core of nervous electricity and emotional catharses. He works in abstract musical realization, in the propagation of feral patterns and cacophonous anomalies, searching for commonality in uncommon things. This drives him to rearrange and deconstruct sounds without bowing to referential influence or (sub)genre limitations." - Joshua Packard for beatsperminute "indek makes music like a system under pressure, fractured, elastic, and always threatening to collapse. His tracks balance precision with instability. At the center of it all is a stripped-back, deeply tactile workflow built around the Tracker Mini, shaping ideas through resampling, reconstruction, and constant mutation. Ahead of a run of UK shows, indek gets deep into his philosophy and workflow with mantras to guide his creative process that should inspire any musican." - polyend ---------------------------- Double-D feat Uaywyau Athens Greece Experimental sound collage performances combining DJ & Live approaches by this Athens based duo upstairs during the door opening reception & short intermissions between sets. --------------------------------------------------
