We are often taught to think about pleasure in relation to what it gives us, rather than what it asks us to notice. In a culture that often encourages us to move quickly through our own experiences, pleasure is often reduced to an end result. Something we aim to achieve and consume, then move beyond. To explore pleasure is to explore the ways we listen, the boundaries we create, and the sensations we choose to follow. Communion: Mapping Self Pleasure is a facilitated conversation for Black women exploring self-pleasure, sexual health, and how we experience and understand our bodies. Grounded in bell hooks’ Communion: The Female Search for Love and Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah’s Seeking Sexual Freedom, the workshop creates space to talk openly about pleasure, ask questions, share experiences and consider our relationships to our own bodies. Ritual is a big theme for this gathering. The evening will include a collective wine tasting, with a selection of wines curated by Women Who Wine and facilitated by me, inviting us to indulge in the rituals of pouring for one another, smelling, tasting and sharing. Your ticket also includes a curated take-home goodie bag, featuring products and resources from HANX, Lovehoney, HotTea Mama and TOTM.
