Encouraged by student activist @siofra.05x3 from Dublin some students and I from Charles University are trying to raise funds for a student in Gaza. Subzero (@subzero.prague) has been kind enough to let us host a DJ gig specifically dedicated to Shams (@shams._gaza). Sham is 18 years old and lives in a tent in Khan Younis, Gaza, with her mother, 95-year-old grandmother, and three brothers. Shams has been resilient. She still finds beauty in everyday life despite the adversity that surrounds her. She enjoys the garden beside her tent and the beach, where many go to escape the heat. Thanks to previous donations and her determination to pursue an education, she has even secured a spot in an online university to study physical therapy. However, like many individuals in Gaza, she and her family still need help with basic needs, such as food and water. Currently the famine is worsening and price for food is continuing to rise. For many of us, 245 CZK is perhaps a forgettable coffee and maybe a pastry, but for Shams family it will make a world of difference. By purchasing a ticket for this event, you are supporting a venue that platforms independent music and political movements, student DJs who volunteered their time and talents, and most of all, a person who deserves a chance at a livelihood as much as any of us. This is not just about advocating for a free Palestine; it's also about defending the fundamental right of human dignity, which is diminishing day by day.
