Panel Discussion All Music Is Background Music Now, drawing on the Post-Ambient Manifesto by Vlady Che. The panel explores how ambient listening, algorithmic curation, and new technologies are reshaping how we make, hear, and value sound. In 1978, Brian Eno described ambient as music "as ignorable as it is interesting". Almost fifty years later, the ignorable part won. We know it from dominating, ever-present AI-generated calm and productivity playlists that sedate on command. Vlady Che argues the opposite: contemporary beatless, abstract music should demand presence, carry the composer's vulnerability, and refuse to become furniture. Live Performances ϙue — quadraphonic live set, Lisbon, Portugal + secret guest Halifax Jr — hybrid live set, BCN Hum-Ag0g — live set, BCN ϙue is the sound project of Vlady Che, a Kyiv-born, Lisbon-based artist working with spatial audio, expressive controllers, biofeedback and the electricity of everything alive. His works moved between underground and institutional platforms like raster, Nuits Sonores, ∄ K41, and SHAPE+, among others. ϙue’s latest LP «TIME» with Comechelet made A Closer Listen's best Ukrainian music of 2024. He is a sound curator of Biorhythm, a cross-sensory organisation working with sound x body x technology. This year, it joined a pan-European consortium with Smalltown Supersound, Field Records, Refuge Worldwide, Kiosk Radio and Radio Dopo, building education programmes fostering the European independent music scene. Vlady is also the author of the post-ambient manifesto, which we'll pull apart on the panel the same night. Who it's for: musicians, sound and media artists, developers, researchers, musicologists, and anyone curious about the future of listening.
