Beach Vacation are a Seattle-based indie pop band with one of the more remarkable origin stories in contemporary American music. Formed in 2012 by Tabor Rupp and Justyn Newman after playing a high school talent show, they were receiving international recognition before they were old enough to drive, their debut EP released simultaneously in the UK, Japan, and the US while the band were still 16 and 17 years old. Their sound is rooted in the rich tradition of hazy, melodic indie pop, Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, The Radio Dept., and the entire Swedish indie pop lineage all run through their DNA, but worn lightly and filtered through something warm, personal, and distinctly Pacific Northwest. Guitar melodies that linger for days. Vocals buried just deep enough in the mix to feel like a secret. Songs about longing, distance, and the particular ache of wanting to be somewhere else entirely. Their most recent album Coping Habits, mixed and mastered by Boy Pablo's producer Erik Thormshein, marks a new chapter of creative confidence, polished without losing the lo-fi intimacy that has always been their calling card, and featuring a collaboration with Cathedral Bells on standout single Blurred Out. It is the sound of a band that has been quietly refining their craft for over a decade, finally arriving at the fullest expression of what they always were.
