One hand on the fader, the other already pulling the next track, and between the two behind the booth, just a brief nod when the transition lands right where it should. That is what a back-to-back set looks like when it is done by DJs who share a deep mutual understanding—and on November 7th at Peti Kupe, two selectors with a proven history together step up to the decks. Kristian Beyer, better known to the world as one half of Âme, joins forces with Belgrade selector Kristijan Molnar for the latest edition of the Sequences series. Beyer’s name is inseparable from the trajectory of contemporary electronic music. Alongside Frank Wiedemann, he co-founded Âme in 2000, creating an influential catalog of tracks while shaping the sound of modern house and techno through Innervisions, the label they run with Dixon. Behind the decks, Beyer is known for long, patiently constructed sets that drift seamlessly between house, techno, and everything in between. Kristijan Molnar holds an equally solid reputation with the local crowd. Active on the scene for two decades, his sets rarely stick to a single genre: deep techno, leftfield disco, New York house, and darker wave electronics fold together into unpredictable, highly cohesive narratives. Alongside appearances at major regional venues and festivals, he continues to shape his sound through his own Gather Together project. It was precisely under the Gather Together umbrella that Kristian and Kristijan previously shared the booth for a back-to-back set. What happens when Beyer’s penchant for long-form sonic journeys meets Molnar’s restless, genre-defying selection is best experienced firsthand. With resident Pepi Jogarde joining the lineup, the tone for the night is firmly set.
