A loveletter to ’90s alternative guitar music, once being described as ‘a perfect mix between Teenage Fanclub and Cap’n Jazz’, it was followed by a live version of ‘bet you know’ and support slots with Westside Cowboy. Born out of Spike Elwell’s solo project, elwell create a sound that has been compared to 90s emo bands, as well as 2000s/2010s US and UK indie artists such as The Cribs and Ovlov. Hopalong Gretzky is the solo moniker of Manchester-based musician Oliver Duffy. Taking influence from such troubadours as Paul Westerberg, Todd Rundgren and Alex Chilton, his heart-on-his-sleeve songwriting style and balance of catchy hooks and sheer volume cements him as one of Manchester’s most honest noisemakers, if nothing else.
