Artist & vocalist Eliza Oakes brings her first headline show in three years to The Old Church, Stoke Newington, Oct 13th. South London artist Eliza Oakes is a vocalist, writer and performer whose work focuses on the exploration of the voice, blending improvisation, songwriting and performance across a spectrum of genres and music traditions. Previously supported by the PRS ‘Women Make Music’ Fund, she is currently developing her solo artist project, combining folk, Americana and gospel influences. As a session vocalist and touring musician, she has collaborated with artists including Florence + The Machine, Jordan Rakei, Gracie Abrams, Elbow, Jules Buckley, Disclosure and more. Eliza is also a soloist and member of Idrîsî Ensemble, a music collective that delves into the performance and study of rare, previously unrecorded medieval repertoire by way of musical archaeology, medieval literature and postcolonial historiography, spanning from 4th century ancient greek polyphonies, Old Roman Chants to Troubadour songs up to the 14th century. The collective has consistently sold out headline shows across the UK and Europe in venues such as KOKO, Union Chapel, Southbank Centre (London) and Bristol Cathedral.
