Baba Yaga's Hut presents: William Basinski at The Barbican - March 27th The experimental composer and sound sculptor traverses the past and present, performing his latest album, Passing the Cup of Sorrows on grand piano, electronics and tape loops, alongside pieces from his resonant repertoire. Passing the Cup of Sorrows channels the intuitive and subtle shifts of asymmetrical patterns from the pioneering 20th Century composer, Morton Feldman. Inspired by the concept of "Life Between Lives", William Basinski uses the piano, electronics and tape loops to translate the transformation of the traumatic memories of past lives into a cathartic release in the present day. William Basinski is a classically trained musician and composer who has been working in experimental media for over 30 years in NYC and most recently, California. Employing obsolete technology and analogue tape loops, his haunting and melancholy soundscapes explore the temporal nature of life and resound with the reverberations of memory and the mystery of time.
