Halifax's 3rd Goth Festival presents Inkubus Sukkubus is a British Pagan Goth/Folk rock band, based in Gloucestershire, with an international following. The subject matter of their music tends to veer towards the dark and supernatural, exploring witchcrat, magick, folklore, death rites and more. The Inkies – as they’ve come to be known – were formed by Candia, Tony and Adam in the summer of 1989, and have been releasing albums and touring ever since. To date, they’ve brought out 27 studio albums and performed live in Mexico, USA, Australia, Russia, Turkey, Scandinavia, UK and most of Europe; they have also appeared on national terrestrial television in the UK, Greece, Germany and Finland. Social Youth Cult, a wildly unusual group from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, have made quite the impact on the UK goth and post-punk scenes since their formation in October 2023. Having shed the skin of their early darkwave efforts, the band’s new work commands listeners to pay attention via a rhythmic, heavier sound reminiscent of early Bauhaus. Refusing a firm definition, their sound is atmospheric, yet sporadic; outward, yet introspective; gothic, yet Gang of Four. Social Youth Cult represents a new wave of underground post-punk focussed on experimentation, energy and a rejection of the current trends of dark music. They don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
