Cipher, an industrial sound collective born from Hong Kong’s underground party scene, is coming to Japan. Founded by FINSENT C—who views techno as a synchronous, ritualistic experience rooted in patience and connection to unfold—cipher has been at the core of Hong Kong’s underground scene. Through collaborations with domestic and international artists such as DJ MARIA., YSK, Amenthia Recordings, and Konduku, the collective has steadily deepened its ties with Japan’s underground scene. On October 16, they will make their long-awaited debut at ENTER, bringing their hard-hitting industrial sound. Finsent C, who began his DJ career on the drum kit, specializes in fluid, hypnotic techno that unfolds over time and is the maestro who shapes cipher’s sound. Dan-neo strongly seeks suspense, payoff, and narrative in his music, incorporating a diverse range of elements into his sets. The lineup features KMG, who moved to Hanoi and is now based in Bangkok, Thailand, performing throughout Asia; SEIRYŪ, who performs as a member of cipher in his second home, Hong Kong; and Marco Yanes, founder of HUM in Hanoi, who has previously performed at cipher. Also joining the lineup are DANDAN, who travels the globe from West to East with dynamic sets; TEI TEI, organizer of the dark psychedelic techno party “Denki bodhisattva”; and UG, organizer of the deep techno party “Shoukatai”—a lineup of artists known for their driving techno and high-energy sets. This one-night-only extravaganza brings together Cipher—which continues to operate out of Hong Kong, Asia’s most chaotic city where countless cultural backgrounds intertwine—and ENTER, located in Shibuya, one of Japan’s downtown and a cultural hub where tastemakers gather.
