Zizou, Los Angeles

On Saturday, October 17th, Naya Beat is excited to partner with In Sheeps Clothing, dublab, and Zizou to present a night of **Punjabi Disco** featuring a Q&A and LIVE ELECTRONIC TABLA with **Kuljit Bhamra MBE**. A South Asian musical legend, pioneer of UK bhangra, multi instrumentalist and formidable tabla technician, **this is Kuljit’s very first time in Los Angeles!** The event is FREE, but space is limited. **RSVP required for Q&A**. Forty years ago, **Mohinder Kaur Bhamra** and her son Kuljit made history on an early drum machine and the first Roland synthesiser by fusing electronic music, disco, funk, and traditional folk music into Punjabi Disco. **The first-ever British Asian electronic dance album and a lost holy grail**, the record was rediscovered and reissued last year to widespread acclaim (Pitchfork's Best New Reissue 8.4/10, the Guardian's Best Global Albums, DJ Mag's Top Albums, and more). Music historian **Geeta Dayal kicks the night off in conversation with Kuljit Bhamra, Piya Malik (Say She She), and Naya Beat’s Filip Nikolic and Raghav Mani** on the album's origins and revival, followed by a dance party with live electronic tabla and **DJ sets from Dino Soccio, Thomaas Banks, and Turbotito & Ragz**. A prolific composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Kuljit Bhamra is a foundational architect of UK bhangra. Over a trailblazing career spanning 2,000+ tracks, his immense contributions to British Asian music earned him an MBE from Queen Elizabeth.
