**The Mike Shaw Quartet live at Eddie's Attic!** **Mike Shaw & Friends** **Mike is a product of the 1960s and '70s folk-rock era whose transition over time (a lot of time) to jazz includes heading up the six-piece jazz-funk band Metropolis in New Orleans in the late '70s and early '80s. He brings that unlikely mix of genres, and the stories behind them, to Eddie's Attic with his quartet, featuring saxophonist Matt Miller, guitarist Dave Frackenpohl, and bassist Chris Riggenbach.** **\--** Mike Shaw has pursued a dual career as writer and musician. He started his life as a musician in the 1960s as a folksinger in the Vanguard Coffee House in Kansas City. Following graduate school at the University of Miami, he began touring, typically with a partner but also as a solo singer-guitarist, along the Florida coasts then throughout the Midwest, before settling in Denver, then Houston, and eventually New Orleans. The transition also took him from singer-guitarist to singer-pianist and leader of Metropolis, the six-piece jazz funk house band of the legendary Absinthe Bar on Bourbon Street in the New Orleans French Quarter. Mike moved to Atlanta in the 1980s where he has founded and presided over three marketing agencies, including his current firm, Shade Communications. He continues to perform, initially for five years in the rotation at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead, and for the last ten with his quartet, primarily for private events. Mike is the author of the novel, The Musician, and co-author with pianist Kevin Bales of What You Learn Learning Music, released for distribution by Simon & Schuster on November 3, 2026.
