As part of our Black Is... series, Atemporal welcomes Detroit-based DJ, producer and selector Julion De’Angelo for a special listening session exploring his long-awaited debut album, Catalyst, released on his own imprint, Maybee Hill Music. Nearly a decade in the making, Catalyst is a deeply personal expression of Julion’s musical vision. Across eight tracks, the album moves between hypnotic Beatdown house rhythms, expansive jazz textures, soulful melodies and intricate polyrhythms, celebrating Detroit’s rich musical heritage while pushing its sound into new territory. Rooted in Black American musical traditions, Julion’s work bridges generations of musical innovation. With releases on respected labels including Sound Signature, Hot Biscuit and Mother Tongue, and performances at We Out Here, GALA and Printworks, he continues to shape and expand the Detroit sound on a global stage. For this edition of Black Is..., we invite you to experience Catalyst in an intimate listening environment, taking a deeper journey into the rhythms, influences and creative ideas behind the record.
