FRIDAY 23 OCTOBER This is a big one. Gonno is back at the Obs. Our long-time friend from Japan has played here countless times over the years, leaving behind more than a few sets that have stayed with us long after the last track. There’s always been something special about the way Gonno approaches a dancefloor — melodic, acid-tinged, eclectic and full of unexpected turns, with a real sense of storytelling behind the decks. An integral part of Japan’s house and techno movement, Gonno has released music on labels including International Feel, Beats In Space and Ostgut Ton, collaborated with artists such as Nick Höppner, and taken his sound to dancefloors around the world. But tonight isn’t about the CV. It’s about having him back here. Joining him across the night are Yokosun, Datodeo, Vynni, Hibiya Line, Dan Lo and Soyoon — a rather special collection of local sounds, long-time Obs friends and familiar faces from around the Saigon scene. Soyoon may be a newer addition to Saigon’s musical landscape, but she’s already played the Obs several times.
