Be the first to view Wavelength: 25 Years of Music & Community, a short documentary written and directed by Ian Daffern (Idfactory) telling the story of Toronto’s unique artist-run concert series and non-profit organization. A who’s who of Canadian music, this project was scored and mixed by Justin Small (Do Make Say Think) and music supervised by Babs V. Westerholm (Cue Queens) and features interviews with Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole, Smashing Pumpkins), Emilie Hanskamp, pHoenix Pagliacci, Charles Spearin (Broken Social Scene), and Wavelength’s Jonathan Bunce (AKA Jonny Dovercourt). Additional music by Burs, Luge, MOONBEAN, Paul Chin, Pony Da Look, Rich Aucoin, Sook-Yin Lee + more. A follow up to 2023’s acclaimed Reimagining Music Venues Study, the launch of the “New Sounds, New Space” report explores different pathways for establishing community hubs for Toronto’s grassroots music community. With positive case studies on Hugh’s Room Live, It’s Ok\* Studios, Small World Music and Primal Note Studios, the report shines light on Toronto’s post-COVID music venue landscape while pointing the way forward for imaginative new spaces.
