For this double bill, we're screening two 30 min documentaries that approach McCarthy from very different angles. **LOOKING FOR CORMAC** follows filmmaker Charles McCarthy on a personal search for the elusive author. Part road movie, part literary investigation, the film sets out to find the real Cormac McCarthy — travelling through the landscapes and communities connected to his life and work while speaking to the people who knew, studied and were influenced by him. It's a search for a writer who deliberately kept himself out of sight. **CORMAC McCARTHY'S VEER** takes a more philosophical route, exploring the ideas and obsessions running through McCarthy's writing. Drawing on his novels, scientific interests and philosophical thinking, the documentary considers McCarthy not simply as a novelist of violence and the American West, but as a writer fascinated by consciousness, morality, language, science and the nature of existence. Together, the films offer two different ways into one of America's most enigmatic writers: one trying to find the man, the other trying to understand the mind behind the books.
