Join us in welcoming the legendary Sir Kahil El’Zabar back to 2220 Arts for a ‘Soul Trance - Liberation of the Spirit’ Black History Month Celebration with his mighty Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, featuring Corey Wilkes (trumpet) and Alex Harding (baritone) + very special guests. Rooted in freedom of expression, El’Zabar leads the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble through performances alive with ritual energy, fearless improvisation and profound human connection — each unfolding in direct conversation with the audience. El’Zabar’s lifelong belief is that music is a force for liberation, healing and higher consciousness - an invitation to release restraint and allow truth and light to emerge. “For the past 50 years, El’Zabar has toed the line between fashion and music, the present and the future, American jazz and West African compositional structure. In 1974, he founded the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble … blurring the edges of traditional jazz, Afrocentric rhythms and cosmic expanse.” - NY Times
