SYMБИОЗА w/ MACHINEDRUM Local support: SMYAH & SOULND On 4 February, Machinedrum arrives in Sofia for the first time, invited by SYMБИОЗА. For more than 25 years, American producer Travis Stewart has been exploring the many dimensions of electronic music without being confined by genre boundaries. We can’t wait to welcome him and experience his music live at КУПЕ / KUPE. From the experimental beats and glitch aesthetics of his early productions to futuristic UK bass, footwork, jungle, drum & bass and club-oriented electronics, Machinedrum has developed a distinctive sound, an impressive discography and an approach that is constantly evolving. Born in the small town of Eden, North Carolina, Travis began experimenting with electronic music as a teenager. In the early 2000s, he caught the attention of the independent electronic music scene with his productions for the influential Miami-based label Merck Records. During this period, he also developed parallel projects under the names Syndrone and tstewart, exploring everything from IDM and glitch to more cinematic and experimental compositions. His move to New York opened a new chapter in his career. There, he connected with artists from different musical backgrounds and began working with vocalists and MCs, including Azealia Banks. His involvement in the local underground scene broadened his musical horizons, while his growing interest in UK bass proved pivotal to his next creative phase. This was also when Sepalcure, his collaborative project with Praveen Sharma, took shape, blending garage, deep basslines and atmospheric textures. His subsequent move to Berlin led to two of the most iconic albums in his discography: Room(s), released on Planet Mu in 2011, and Vapor City, released on Ninja Tune in 2013. Across these records, footwork, juke, jungle and UK bass come together in a hypnotic combination of intricate rhythms, weighty low-end and melodies that linger long after the music stops. Machinedrum has never been an artist who fits neatly into a single category. His numerous collaborative projects are proof of that. Dream Continuum, with Om Unit, brings jungle and footwork together in unexpected ways; J-E-T-S, with Jimmy Edgar, explores futuristic club sounds and experimental electronics; while VIER, a project with Thys (of NOISIA), Holly and Salvador Breed, pushes further into adventurous electronic territory. As a producer and co-writer, Travis has worked with artists including Azealia Banks, Freddie Gibbs, Mick Jenkins, Dawn Richard, Jesse Boykins III, Theophilus London and Tinashe, moving effortlessly between electronic music, hip-hop and R&B. As a remixer, he has also left his mark on music by DJ Shadow, Noisia, Rudimental, Bonobo, Solange, SBTRKT and Johnny Cash — further proof of his remarkable musical range. Over the years, his music has found a home on labels including Merck Records, Planet Mu, LuckyMe, Hotflush Recordings and Ninja Tune. In 2026, Travis opened a new chapter in his career by relaunching his own label, IAMSIAM, establishing a new home for his music and a space for future experimentation. On 4 February, we’ll dive into the world of Machinedrum in the intimate club atmosphere of КУПЕ / KUPE. An evening for those who look beyond the obvious — unconventional rhythms, heavy bass, intricate breaks and electronic music that constantly evolves without ever losing its identity. MACHINEDRUM — in Bulgaria for the first time.
