General Levy was born in Park Royal, London, and grew up in Harlesden and Wembley, collecting dancehall tapes from 1981. He was writing lyrics at 12 and running his first sound system, Third Dimension, two years later. His first major releases came through Fashion Records, with tracks re-released via London Records, after earlier underground dancehall hits with Lloydy Crucial and Robbo Ranx. His collaboration with M-Beat on "Incredible" became a jungle anthem, later featured in Ali G Indahouse and a Honda TV campaign, and he is now cited as one of the 25 UK MCs who changed the game. Levy has featured on sound systems including Java One Love and Tippertone Sound, collaborated with Rocco Barker of Flesh for Lulu in The Space Police, appeared on Mark Morrison's "Only God Can Judge Me", and worked with dub producer Joe Ariwa on releases including "In the Ghetto" and "Be Conscious & Wise: Dub Showcase".
