BRET, Amsterdam

Sunday. October 4th. Jesse G. MARRØN and SHE/HER at BRET. There’s a clear thread running through all three artists: their roots influencing who they are as artists and how they play. Jesse G grew up in Wiesbaden as the child of Filipino and Sicilian immigrants. Music became the common language early on: R&B, Italo pop and rap first. Later came Berlin (and techno), six years working at Hard Wax, and residencies at RSO and Tresor. You can still hear this in her sets. Techno at the centre, but influenced by different genres from her youth. Even MARRØN’s artist name points back to his roots, referring to the Maroon history of Suriname. As an artist he started with playing Afro Deep before bringing those African rhythms into techno. Fast, rhythmic, atmospheric. He’s also the founder of Eerste Communie and Ndyuka Rhythms. SHE/HER started DJing in 2019, inspired by the Dutch underground and illegal rave scene. Her sets are built around rolling rhythms and keeping things moving. She’s a resident at Vulged, has played Radion, Intercell, and released her first production on the Radion VA earlier this year. Tickets live now. See you at BRET.
