FāQ PRESENTS REBEKAH On 26 September 2026, FāQ and Aby’ss welcome Rebekah to Shanghai, bringing one of the most established figures in British industrial techno and hard electronic music to the club. Born and raised in Birmingham, Rebekah’s relationship with techno reaches back to the late 1990s and one of the most influential periods in British underground electronic music. Her formative experiences came at Birmingham’s legendary Que Club and Atomic Jam, where artists including Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Billy Nasty, Surgeon and Regis helped shape a distinctly Birmingham approach to techno: dark, physical, industrial and uncompromising. Rebekah began DJing in 1996. What followed developed into a career spanning three decades and multiple generations of underground techno. REBEKAH After establishing herself within the British scene, Rebekah became closely associated with Chris Liebing’s CLR, before developing an extensive production catalogue across labels including Soma Records, Perc Trax, MORD, Sonic Groove and her own platforms Elements and Decoy Records. Her debut album Fear Paralysis was released through Soma in 2017, combining brutal four-four pressure, broken rhythms and industrial sound design. In 2018, DJ Mag named Rebekah Best Producer in its Best of British awards and later described her as one of the figureheads behind the revival of industrial-strength techno. But her sound has never existed entirely inside one definition of techno. Acid, EBM, electro, industrial music, early rave and hardcore have all appeared throughout her DJ sets and productions, connecting the Birmingham techno tradition that shaped her with the increasingly fast and hybrid direction of contemporary underground electronic music. That evolution eventually developed into Go Hard Or Go Hardcore, Rebekah’s project pushing beyond conventional techno into faster and more extreme territory. The philosophy is direct. Hard techno does not need to stop where hardcore begins. BIRMINGHAM TO SHANGHAI Rebekah’s arrival at Aby’ss connects two different generations and geographies of underground electronic music. Birmingham’s techno history was built through clubs, warehouses, independent promoters and artists who developed an identity distinct from the dominant electronic music centers around them. Aby’ss has spent the last five years developing its own independent ecosystem in Shanghai. Since opening in 2021, the club has built a program around techno, hard techno, hardcore, industrial electronics and high-BPM rave while connecting international artists with Chinese DJs, producers, promoters and resident culture. The relationship is particularly relevant for Rebekah. The harder, industrial and increasingly hardcore direction of her music sits directly inside the territory Aby’ss has been developing in China. But the connection extends beyond genre. Both histories are rooted in the idea that underground culture is built by communities, not simply by headliners. FĀQ AND ABY’S S Presented together with FāQ, Rebekah’s Shanghai appearance continues a long-running collaboration between the promoter and Aby’ss. Previous FāQ editions at the club have brought international artists including Restricted, T78, Caroline Roxy, KIRK, Ali James and AEXHY into the Shanghai underground while placing them alongside artists operating inside China’s local electronic music community. Rebekah represents another generation of that international history. Her career reaches from Birmingham’s late-1990s techno culture through CLR and Berlin, Soma and Perc Trax, industrial techno and the current acceleration toward hard techno and hardcore. FāQ and Aby’ss bring that history into direct contact with Shanghai. For Aby’ss, international bookings form only one part of a wider identity. Resident artists and club-created projects including C.U.M, BLOODBATH and ABIBAS have developed alongside visiting artists, allowing the club to build its own culture around hardcore, techno, performance, fashion and alternative underground communities rather than simply importing an existing European model. Five years into that history, Rebekah arrives at a club whose musical trajectory has increasingly moved toward the same intersection she has explored throughout her career. Techno and hardcore.
