Dave Fortune has been holding it down on Manchester’s underground for more than two decades. A passion for crate digging and a keen ear for a killer groove have led to him being a regular fixture in the city’s bars and clubs, DJing an eclectic mix of styles such as hip hop, funk, disco, electronica, house, afrobeat, and reggae to name just a few. Not content with just playing other people’s records, Dave is a dab hand at production, having notched up quite a few releases under his DJ Mischiefalias. His tracks have had airplay on BBC Radio 1and BBC 6 Music from Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles respectively, as well as being played and supported by renowned club DJs including Mr. Scruff, DJ Format, Simbad and DJ Lefto. Dave is also known for his work running My First Moth Records, a Mancunian vinyl imprint that specialised in hip-hop, funk and electronica. The label has released material from homegrown talent including Neko Neko, Frameworks and Omas, alongside international artists such as BluRum 13 and DistantStarr; and also featured remix and production work from heavy hitters like Glaswegian super-producer Hudson Mohawke and French beatmaker Fulgeance.
