This event will take place in Earth Hall. Baba Yaga's Hut presents: Snapped Ankles + Mermaid Chunky & TaliaBle - massive winter solstice party at Earth Hall, December 17th After nearly two years of hard times furious dancing and constant touring, Snapped Ankles will be returning to the forest for a well earned hibernation. Their final act of public ritual will be to observe the winter solstice of 2026. You are invited to join them in this most hallowed of traditions. Also attending the evening’s rituals will be our favourite masked and mischievous allies Mermaid Chunky and TaliaBle to form an evening that will invoke all that is fun and furious about the winter peak. Join the last pagans in town at Earth Hall in Hackney N16 on 17th December. Bring Your own winter mask or forest costume, optional but fully encouraged!! you never know it might still be a warm summer this winter anyway! \---- Snapped Ankles outsider status has always allowed them to hold a mirror up to society. Now the boundaries are not so clear. In the seven years since Come Play The Trees was released, their cult has flourished. Second album, Stunning Luxury, saw the band invited to play the BBC 6 Music Festival and a KEXP session on the back of a sold-out UK tour which culminated with two nights at Village Underground in London. As those who have witnessed the shamanic ritual of their live shows will attest, they are a truly unique, communal experience. Forest Of Your Problems saw the woodwose bring their ancient forest rhythms and high-wire, multi-media live act to ever bigger stages - including Camden’s iconic Roundhouse and SXSW and Desert Daze festivals. 2025 sees the release of new album Hard Times Furious Dancing and their most extensive UK and European tour to date, which includes a London show at legendary nightclub Fabric. It showcases the ‘Forest Rayve’ sound they’ve been road-testing at their club nights and select shows in 2024. \------ Mermaid Chunky. It’s all in a name, sometimes. The danceable, costumed, curiosity rich duo of artists Freya Tate and Moina Moin are as imaginative as they profess. Or, to get more to the point, as we all need them to be. Freya and Moina are two visual artists and musicians from Stroud and South London, places where they importantly found communities (Stroud’s SVA and the capital’s Total Refreshment Centre) of like minded people just as willing to chase down an idea to its possibly illogical conclusion. And it is in the collective and the idea of participation that Mermaid Chunky really clicks. This is a party, a collective dance, made all the better with more: people, ideas, layers, kick drums, recorders, saxophones, frogs. To wit, the album’s first track and first single, “Céilí,” named after a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering and dance, which builds from a simple recorder line into a swelling, warm burst of major chord dance music. Goosebumps or check your pulse. Further down the rabbit hole, “Chaperone” is almost boardwalk electro, like Fischerspooner on a ferris wheel; “Frogsporn” and “Nature Girl” are mucky, trippy dirges filled with stalactites of synth and squelch; “Tiny Gymnast” is a kaleidoscopic waltz into the night. Hold onto your seats, ladies and gentlemen. \---- TaliaBle is a Tottenham raised rapper and multidisciplinary artist, prized as thee go to underground circus. Since emerging in 2019, she has sculpted a distinct lane blending tongue twisting, poetic lyricism with experimental electronic and left field hip hop beats. Her self-directed visual world folds magic into everyday London concrete. You’ll experience a world full of surplus whimsy, grit, and raw stories, as her music moves between chaos and clarity. Gaining the attention from i.D magazine, The Face, Fred Perry Subculture and Charles Jeffrey paired with a headline gig at Tate Britain; TaliaBle has been hailed as ‘exciting, experimental and punk as hell.’ Revered as a powerhouse of sound and image, she crafts immersive live experiences that blur the line between performance and visual spectacle. Expect thought provoking, high energy shows filled with distortion and moments of collective catharsis. From legendary stages like the 100 Club, Roundhouse, KOKO, and Paradiso Amsterdam, to cultural institutions such as Tate Britain and the ICA, and festivals like OutBreak, Horst, and Green Man; TaliaBle commands every room she steps into. She carves a yellow brick road through the London underground and uses her music as a soundscape catalyst for imaginary world building. In simple terms, her music is a place. This is a 16+ event.
