"Uhhh, we'll be there in a bit" is the next edition of Sameheads regular Levente featuring two key artists from the from Europes thriving bass scene. Like liquid mercury in a petri dish—slick, supple, and playfully disobedient—Rhyw’s music dazzles as it defies expectation. He has released mainly on Fever AM, the imprint he set up with Mor Elian in 2017, as well as labels like Avian, Modeselektor’s SSPB and Voam. In the studio or behind the decks, he brilliantly fuses different strains of ultra-modern techno and broken beat: eyes-down minimal lights up with modular sass, choppy kicks flirt with rolling grooves, and sharp sound design slices through earthy subs. It’s the kind of amphibious sound that can slip into otherworldly spaces while never truly leaving the dance floor. Rotterdam-based DJ Samira plays bass-driven club music, breaks and darker electronic tracks. She is a resident DJ at Operator Radio, where she hosts a monthly show. Her sets are raw, rhythmic and direct, but can also move into downtempo territory. In today’s digitally-dominated era, the temptation to lighten up the dance floor with euphoria-driven moments and quick thrills can be hard to avoid. Instead, Levente prefers weaving an expansive musical tapestry from multiple styles and eras, creating an intimacy with the listener that stretches far beyond the next drop. Keenly attuned to the powers of an empathetic ear and open mind, Levente’s penchant for textured rhythms, non-Western percussive elements, a wide variety of broken beats, UK bass, Balkan folk (a nod to his Carpathian roots) and forward-thinking club sounds will see him continue making waves in Berlin and beyond.
