Ljubljana's SONICA, an annual music festival that covers diverse trends in contemporary music and sonic arts, announces its 18th edition, taking place at various locations across the Slovenian capital from 5 to 14 November. This year's theme Celestial Shelters brings installations, sound art pieces, electronic and experimental music performances as well as DJ sets with the power to transform our perception of reality. The main concert night at Kino Šiška on 12 November brings Catalan visionary Marina Herlop, presenting her new album Dja Dja, alongside Slovenian electronic duo Litošt, returning after several years with their new album Xioxio. Canadian audiovisual duo Estelle Schorpp & Charline Dally will present dreamachine, an immersive work inspired by journeys on Japanese and Hong Kong high-speed trains. Other highlights include Japanese sound artist Fujilllllllllllta and Romanian sound artist Simina Oprescu at the monumental Trnovo Church, and legendary selector Vladimir Ivkovic closing the festival at Channel Zero. The lineup also features Slovenian-Croatian EBM/techno duo Black Dot, young local talents Zvèn and Ribeiroia, and a new commissioned work by SONICA 2026 residents, visual artist Matej Mihevc and composer/drummer Szymon Pimpon Gąsiorek. The festival opens on Thursday, November 5, with a new sound installation by Eric Raynaud and Martin Bricelj Baraga at Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova | +MSUM. It's gonna be a special one!
